Fashion Not-Pas

If you've been around this site awhile, you're familiar with my pontifications on the state of American fashion. Generally, I snap shots of anonymous fashion victims to illustrate to us all how America needs healing in more ways than one.

But this time around, I think we have a winner. I must say, first lady Laura Bush worked her winter white inaugural suit.

Very well done. Classy, tasteful, fitting for the occasion, and very non-queen-of-England-looking.

Even the four loud-mouthed anti-traditionalists on ABC's "the View" (save Elisabeth Hasselbeck, who I like) had nice things to say about our first lady's ensemble.

Unfortunately, other Americans have not been so fortunate. See some of my past critiques:

Past Faux-Pas
- Attack of the Killer Patterns
- George W. Bush and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
- The Grizzly Bear
- The Blue-Haired, Gun Tights Wonder
- Stripey Girl
- Me Being Stripey Girl
- The Pimp
- The Cowboy Boots

I like that outfit.

If more women dressed that way, and lived what it represents, I'd be a happy-er man.

"Stay classy". She was clean at the MLK event at the Kennedy Center on Monday too.

She was smokin!

She's very classy and sophisticated... I am SO glad she's our first lady as opposed to the alternative... not-so-ladylike "Tuh-ray-zuh."

My husband says the only word that befits Mrs. Bush is "Regal"

She looked Amazing!

"Regal" is a good word. All I know is my 15 year old son was watching the inaugural with me, and when Mrs. Bush stepped from the car he said, "Wow, that's beautiful," and he's not a kid who notices what middle-aged women are wearing. She was simply outstanding. She should always wear white.

I agree with everyone here, when I was watching the news and I saw Mrs. Bush I thought she looked really beautiful. There's nothing wrong with a woman looking like a woman. America has so much distoreted those roles.

It is refreshing to have Laura Bush as our first lady. I agree America is not/nor ever will be ready for Mrs JFK Theresa.

Laura is always graceful and she is exactly what America needs. Not only does she not have an agenda for personal political gain, she exuberates kindness and warmth. God blessed us again.

Laura Bush was stunning! She's a real class act. I'm so proud to have her as our first lady. She's all that is good about women. Her dignity is a real asset. In fact, the first couple are an excellent couple and complement each other beautifully...

Laura Bush- now the third rail of U.S. politics. Touch and you get shocked. Ask Teresa Heinz Kerry about her backhand shots at Laura to USA Today during the campaign. Not much heard from her after that point. Not against a First Lady with approval poll numbers in the 80s. Another smashing performance by a classy lady on Inauguration Day.

Hi Ambra,

I need to request your assistance in helping me conduct my official survey of 2 of my favorite "hot mamas".....for what I see to be obvious reasons.

Now, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but when you look at Elizabeth Hasselbeck, don't you also think the following - other than her being (Pretty Hot And Tempting) PHAT?

If she were black - or had a black twin sister......she'd be Gabrielle Union. Tell me I'm lyin!!

MmmmmmHm. That's what I thought.........they ARE the long lost Ebony & Ivory twin sisters. See, I told you so.
