Name: Hans Zeiger

Age: 19

Status: Sophomore American Studies major at Hillsdale College in Michigan.

Why you should fear him: He's everyone's favorite boy scout (correction, Eagle Scout). He's brash, he's a Republican, he's Hans Zeiger. Up until he wrote some grossly ignorant and misleading comments about voting and people who listen to hip hop, Zeiger was on my very good side.

Still it remains, Zeiger is a force to be reckoned with. Once called one of the most opinionated teenagers in America, Zeiger is a national columnist and an activist. He is the president of the Scout Honor Coalition, a network dedicated to countering politically correct attacks on the scouts.

Last year Zeiger was also a runner-up in MTV's "Stand Up and Holla" essay contest.

Zeiger's column appears in too many papers and online news sources to name them all. A few include the Seattle Times, WorldnetDaily, and TownHall. While many of us were home watching television, Zeiger was penning his first book, "Get Off My Honor", published by Broadman and Holman publishers, and due out in 2005.

Most importantly, he's a young man devoted to community service, serving in his local church, and being a responsible citizen. Can't ask for more.

I hear about this fella alot here in Michigan. I'm impressed by his conviction and intelligence but he better watch it. Mr. Zeiger has leeches on the right attaching themselves to him so they can get promo. And he's eating it up. One of the disadvantages of being young and inexperienced. And I'm only 33! :)

Um... the forward to his book was written by freakin OLIVER NORTH? Cough cough... So much for honor and integrity...

All jokes aside... not all of us Eagle Scouts agree with his vision of the Scouts... but hey, I'm just a gay Eagle Scout "devoted to community service, serving in his local church, and being a responsible citizen." So I guess I'm just chopped liver.

In any case, despite the recent political jihad within the Scouts, I'll continue to support my local troop with financial resources and time... but nothing goes to the National Office anymore until they go through a Reformation.

I met Hans at a Young Republican state convention a few years ago. I was already jealous of him for getting in the Times' "Next" section, which I had an inside track on but was too slow in sending in an application. He seemed very driven but totally personable. That mug shot of him in the Times is great; he looks like an REI backpacker.
