Press!

A few Seattle bloggers (including myself) were featured in the December 2004 issue of "Seattle Magazine", a highly reputable publication, in an article by Matt Rosenberg titled, "Blog On!" It's a six-page feature and profiles five bloggers of different backgrounds and political ideologies. The bloggers hi-lighted are techno-guy Stefan Sharkansky, racial profiling victim Ian Spiers (a really nice guy), Andy MacDonald, journalist Dave Neiwert, Natasha Celine, and lowly ole me.

I'm featured on page six (in the linked document), and my mug on page four, on what was a reprehensibly bad hair day. And for love's sake, you'd think the magazine people would have the audacity to at least photoshop out the blemishes. Sheesh. My favorite words used in the article to describe nykola.com were "tart, brash, irreverent, outspoken and eclectic". Irreverent? Is it odd that I take great pride in being described that way? Ha.

Do read the whole article if you get a chance. I need to change it to a pdf, so bear with the image loading please all you dial-up folk (hint hint, dsl is better).

Timely article, congrats. And as always, thanks for the links.

Wow. New favourite photo of you. Great shot. And your hair (what we can see of it), looks just fine.

p.s. and now we finally know what you do for a living ;-)

I'll add to the congrats. You're so sweet it's difficult to imagine your blog as tart - I guess it depends on your perspective.

I also enjoyed the dig about irreverent ("lacking proper respect or seriousness"). Nothing improper here at Nykola.com, and blogs that are overly serious are not that much fun to read. Wonder if "irreverent" is liberal code to "dis" your site?

Not that it really matters. Now go check on some compliance problems, stat!

First the phone book and now the Seattle Magazine :o)

Good for you, Ambra!

Thanks everyone for the kudos.

Memer, My hair is much longer than appears in that photo. I should've just worn it back so people could accuse me of looking 12 again. I just find it odd that I'm the only one with my eyes closed. Grrr.

and MarcV, I am so glad that someone can see past the orange and pink to see that I am a nice person. If I may quote Jessica Simpson for a moment (ha), "I really am a very nice girl."

No worries about the article's intention. Matt Rosenberg, the author is a cool cat who I'm sure intended the adjective of "irreverent" in the best of ways. Now as for tart? Well, to some I am, I suppose. But doesn't most tart leave an aftertaste of sweetness? Let's hope so.

Like I always say to be people who feel the need to send me mean missives: "Stick around...you'll see, I'm nicer than you think." Heh.

You mean, that wasn't done on purpose? Well, it worked out real cool. I can see why they chose that one. Very artsy. Peaceful. Not like the ruckus that is your blog ;-)

p.s. yes, def, you look older with your hair out.

Yes it was done on purpose. The photographer said, "close your eyes" and I did. I don't think he asked anyone else to do that though.

I know what it is...it's a conspiracy against my Fraggle Rock eyes. (hold all jokes about them from here on out...I've probably heard it all...

Congrats! How did you get in there?

Posted by: mj at November 23, 2004 8:39 PM

I was asked to be interviewed. Simple as that.

Posted by: Ambra Nykol at November 23, 2004 9:01 PM

So they asked you, and then they asked you to close your eyes. Really nice [rolleyes].
