Confessions of a Weary Traveler

I'm pooped. I've been to five states in 10 days and I still have one more to go. Today I'm in Connecticut and this picture taken in D.C. epitomizes my sentiment. That's about the fakest, tiredess smile I've ever seen and it has this glazed over, jet-lagged, I don't even know my if I'm coming or going look about it. In any case, today I find myself back in my old Connecticut stomping grounds. I've been searching for Martha Stewart since my plane landed, but I think they have her penned up somewhere.

That said, there is almost too much to talk about--Kobe, Republican National Convention, Hurricaines, why I was forced to be subjected to the innermost personal details of my frisker's relationship troubles at airport security. Really, this world we live in is a mess. I need to gather my thoughts and get some sleep, but I have some not-so-keen observations of the last few days (namely the Republican National Convention).

- First off, I heart President Bush. A lot. I have NO clue why, but he is very endearing. I thought his speech was awesome, but hey, that's just me.

- Does it strike anyone as odd that the Democratic National Convention in Boston boasted a mere five arrests of opposers as compared to the nearly 2,000 arrested thus far in New York City? I do. Apparently, foolish thought precedes foolish behavior. I didn't watch the DNC so someone can step in and correct me if I'm wrong, but much of the extremist Left is just irreverant and disrespectful. I don't care what you don't agree with in President Bush's decisions, under no circumstances is it ever okay to run in and interrupt via protest the President while he's speaking. I don't care WHICH political party he's a member of. I have zero tolerance for this type of behavior.

- While we're on the subject of protest, can someone please tell me why people are still protesting the Iraq War? Just curious.

- I've decided that in the undercurrents of the RNC, there is a secret competition going on to see who can fit in the phrase "George W. Bush" as many times as possible.

- Someone please clarify this "American Dream" for me if you will. That's a phrase tossed around rather loosely these days.

- So Michael Moore Frump Boy's at the RNC-- Big bloody deal. Why do we pay him any mind. It's like giving candy to a kid throwing a tantrum. And in his case, he really doesn't need the candy.

- So why is it that a 22-year-old can put their life on the line for the defense of our great nation, but in that same "great nation" has to pay $20 extra dollars a day to rent a car because their age bracket is deemed "irresponsible"? What is the litmus test for young adult responsibility because I want a waiver.

- Lastly, from the "things that got me riled up" files....this interview on Oxblog with Princella Smith, the black college student who won an essay contest and had the opportunity to speak this week during the RNC. His analysis of the lack of black Republican presence is well, debate-worthy.

I'll be fleshing all this out later in the day. Tomorrow I'll be in New York, thankfully on the tail-end of nightmarish protest ignorance, and an abundance of blue suits and power ties.
